The Economic Development Authority has agreed to help several local businesses replace the aging canopy atop the Stewartville City Center.

The businesses include Subway, the City Center Laundromat, Darrell’s Emporium, Shear Perfections and a new style shop scheduled to open soon. The businesses form an association that pays for improvements to the City Center building.

The EDA has unanimously agreed to give the association a $7,500 grant to help pay for a new awning and gutter system. The EDA’s action is preliminary because its final approval depends on the association’s willingness to move forward with the awning project, said Barb Neubauer, city finance director. Neubauer said after last week’s EDA meeting that as of last week, the members of the association had not yet met…
