Heather Jech, Owner and Hair Artist, does cuts, colors, waxing, perms, updos, and other styles, usually on Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Makin’ Waves, located at 200 N. Main St. in Stewartville since 2012.

Tina Fabian is another stylist who rents out the building, which Jech says is conveniently multi-tenant—Stylists can rent the “booth” at their own leisure—and it has a nice parking lot in the back and is easy to find because it is close to City Hall.

In high school, Jech’s friends would request that she style their hair. While she weighed her options with a couple other occupations, she decided to become a stylist. One day, talking with a client, she joked that she “made a lot of waves”, and the client excitedly suggested that Jech name her salon Makin’ Waves.

While it is a challenge to keep clients from going to Rochester, Jech currently has about 695 clients, with about an equal number of men and women. Much of her business comes from regulars and referrals. She most enjoys meeting people, getting to know them, and giving them confidence. She says her clients make her excited to go to work, and she also likes seeing them around town.

Thank you, Makin’ Waves, for serving the community of Stewartville!
